In just five days, Chad Hutchinson went from starting QB to unemployed. He was 20-of-42 for 211 yards with four interceptions and no TD passes and a quarterback rating of 23.1 in the preseason.

Good day for the Bears
After two pathetic performances by Chad Hutchinson, the Bears finally named Kyle Orton the starter for the regular-season opener against the Redskins. Hutch moved to fourth on the depth chart behind Orton, Jeff Blake, and Kurt Kittner.
The Bears also agreed to a five-year contract with 36-day holdout Cedric Benson. Benson was the last first-round pick to sign. The details of the contract were not made available, but the deal was rumored to contain $17 million of guaranteed money.

Batboy suspended for taking dare
The Marlins suspended their batboy for the upcoming 6-game homestand for accepting a dare from former Marlin Brad Penny. Penny told the boy that he would pay him $500 if he could drink a gallon of milk in under 1 hour without throwing up. The boy was able to down the milk without throwing up, but not within the allotted 60 minutes. After the Marlins found out about the dare, they suspended the boy. I thought stupid dares and practical jokes were a huge part of the game. Marlins management needs to lighten up. By the way, I'd drink a gallon of milk for $50 if anyone wants to pony up the cash.

Goodbye Huggy Bear
Bob Huggins was told on Tuesday that if he does not resign in the next 24 hours he will be fired. Huggins upset the new school president when he was arrested for drunken driving last year. Him staggering around during his field sobriety test was high comedy I must say.

Why didn't I know this?
I didn't know that Kane was once a wrestler named Dr. Isaac Yankem until Bill Simmons pointed it out today. Read Bill's running diary of SummerSlam, it is great.
They should've known better
I read today that Cold Stone Creamery stores is recalling its Cake Batter Ice Cream due to a multi-state salmonellosis outbreak. Apparently Cold Stone didn't believe that they really had to bake the batter before use like it said on the bag. I've been to Cold Stone a couple times and gotten the Cake Batter Ice Cream both times without any complications afterwards.

Congrats Royals
The Royals ended their 19-game losing streak yesterday, defeating the A's 2-1. The 19-game skid set the franchise record for most consecutive losses. The streak was baseball's longest losing streak in 17 years. All of the A's performed the ancient art of Seppuku after letting the Royals defeat them.

Merck found negligent
Merck has been held liable by a Texas jury in the first lawsuit involving Vioxx. The jury awarded over $250 million to the widow of a Texas man who died of a heart attack while taking Vioxx. Some 20 million people have used Vioxx. Since the recall, about 4,200 product liability lawsuits representing about 7,500 plaintiff groups have been filed against Merck. Merck plans to appeal the Texas jury's decision.

Bears give Benson final offer
The Bears said today that they made their final offer to 1st round pick Cedric Benson. Cedric is the only first-round pick without a contract agreement. General Manager Jerry Angelo said, "After missing all of training camp, we want to make it abundantly clear that the Chicago Bears have made their best and final offer to Cedric Benson. No dollars are left on the bargaining table, and at this point the only contract discussions that will be entertained will be reflective of the considerable loss of value to the Club created by the player's extended absence."
Work update
I'm sure most of you know that school started on Wednesday. Since the teachers and kids have been back, I've been very busy. However, I'm not complaining. I'm really enjoying my job. I'm one of the fortunate who are excited to go to work when they wake up in the morning. Hopefully I'm just as excited 20 years from now. Of course the metal ones will probably have come for us by then and I won't have a job anymore.

FYI...
If you notice that your truck isn't steering as nice as it used to, you should check to make sure the four wheel drive isn't on before taking it to a mechanic.

Also, I heard there's a new reader of my blog. Welcome Brad G.

We are the champions
My U-11 soccer team captured the tournament championship today, 2-1. The Vegas oddsmakers had us as heavy underdogs because we were defeated earlier in the season by a score of 4-0 by the team we played today. This is my second championship along with a second and a third place finish in 9 years of coaching. Next year's outlook looks good with our top 3 scorers and our top 3 defenders returning.

Rex injured yet again
This year Rex Grossman didn't even make it to the regular season. He broke his left ankle tonight against the Rams and will miss 3-4 months. I wonder if Jerry Angelo wishes he would've signed a veteran backup in the offseason? At least we'll get to see more of Kyle Orton this season.

Stick a fork in 'em
I think it's time for the Cubs to concede the rest of the season. Why put us fans through the torture of following the remaining games? They just lost their sixth game in a row to put them four games under .500.
It's that time of year again...
It is once again time for fantasy football. Yesterday was the rookie draft for my dynasty league as well as the draft for my yearly re-draft league. I was happy with my rookie draft. I was able to snag Cadillac Williams, Mark Clayton, Marion Barber III, and Mike Nugent. Other league managers are saying that I had the best draft class. That should scare all others in the league since I was 16-0 last season.
My other draft didn't go as well as I had hoped. Because I had the last pick, I had to take two RBs I'm not completely sure of, Deuce McAllister and LaMont Jordan. My make or break pick was Kerry Collins in the fourth round. My team will only go as far as his arm will take them. Rounding out my team is Javon Walker, Roy Williams, Cedric Benson, Drew Bennett, Reuben Droughns, Jeremy Shockey, Chad Pennington, Lee Evans, Eagles D, Lawrence Tynes, Heath Miller, Bills D, Mewelde Moore, Steve McNair, Correll Buckhalter, John Kasay, and Ronald Curry.

Busy
Sorry for the lack of posts this week. People are starting to show up at the school and I'm getting very busy. I still have about half of the teacher stations left to upgrade (~25), three labs to get set up, and two new teacher machines to get setup. Add to that list all the problems that arise during any given day and I'm a busy boy. I already miss the slow days of June and July. Hopefully my lab tech shows up soon because I could use some extra help.
