Boilers win thanks to an assist from Purdue's greatest alum
Purdue ended up defeating Northwestern today by what looks to be a decisive 35-17 victory. However, the game was very much in doubt until the last few minutes of the fourth quarter.
After scoring 14 points in the first quarter, Purdue was down 17-14 at the end of the third quarter.
That is when Neil Armstrong led the Boiler fans in the singing of Shout, which has become a tradition that is supposed to get the fans fired up for the start of the fourth quarter. The crowd went nuts when Armstrong was introduced by the PA announcer.
The Boilers then rallied to score three touchdowns in the final quarter to win their seventh game of the season.
To be fair, Armstrong should not get all of the credit for the Boilers' impressive performance in the fourth quarter.
The defense was great all day, but especially in the fourth quarter. The Boiler D didn't allow a Wildcat first down in the final 15 minutes, which enabled Purdue's offense to score the necessary points for the victory.
Purdue is now 7-2 and will travel to Happy Valley next week to take on Penn St.
Armstrong wasn't just on campus for the game. He came for the dedication of the new engineering building that is named in his honor.
