Great quote

Javon Walker made a funny when talking about his former team, the Green Bay Packers. Javon said, "Obviously, we [the Broncos] have a chance to be a Super Bowl team. Obviously, they [the Packers] have a chance to win four games." The best part is that he is right, the Packers are really bad.

Soccer Update

The Foxes finished the regular season tied for 2nd place. We had a golden opportunity to finish in first but we couldn't find a way past a fiesty Wolves team tonight. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. It didn't help that the game was played in a driving rain storm that left this head coach drenched (along with everyone else who was there). We ended up getting the 3rd seed because we lost the coin flip with the other team tied for 2nd place. I went against the "tails never fails" logic and called heads. I'll never make that mistake again. Because we got the 3rd seed, we'll be facing the Wolves in the first round.

Snakes falling fast

Marky Mark and his new movie (Invincible) crushed SOaP this weekend by taking in $17 mil. Snakes on a Plane dropped all the way from first last week to 6th this week, taking in a disappointing $6.4 mil this weekend.

More fantasy football

Erv and I are in an ESPN league and here's what we came up with today. This league starts two QBs, one RB, three WRs, one flex (RB or WR), one TE, one defense, and one kicker. We were allowed to freeze one player from last year's team and we decided to keep Tom Brady. Here's how the rest of the team shapes up...

QB - Tom Brady
QB - Peyton Manning
RB - Willie Parker
RB/WR - Reggie Bush
WR - Santana Moss
WR - Derrick Mason
WR - Terry Glenn
TE - Jason Witten
Def - Chicago Bears
K - Josh Brown

And for the bench...
QB - Ben Roethlisberger
RB - Deshaun Foster
RB - Thomas Jones
RB - Kevan Barlow
WR - Keyshawn Johnson
WR - Bobby Engram
TE - Kellen Winslow

Fantasy Football Drafts

It's time for fantasy football again. The draft for my dynasty league and the re-draft league was on Sunday. Both leagues have ten teams.

In the dynasty league, I grabbed rookies Joseph Addai, Brian Calhoun, and Derek Hagan.

In the re-draft league, I drafted Jake Plummer, Ben Roethlisberger, Larry Fitzgerald, Javon Walker, Steven Jackson, LaMont Jordan, Warrick Dunn, Alge Crumpler, Steve McNair, Aaron Brooks, Thomas Jones, Keyshawn Johnson, Joey Galloway, Vernon Davis, Dallas D, Washington D, John Kasay, and Nate Kaeding.

Someone stop the madness

I guess WWE Films is committed to making bad movies. They have already produced See No Evil starring Kane, one of the most accomplished actors of all time. Now I see that John Cena is starring in The Marine. I can't wait for Eugene's movie! WWE needs to understand that there will never be another wrestler like The Rock who actually can act. Well, act well enough for an action movie. We'll see how good his new, more serious movie is. Remember how good The Rock was in Gladiator, Dave?

Former Purdue player turned commie?

I was going to write something witty about Purdue basketball producing an MVP candidate in a professional league until I found something much more disturbing...Katie Douglas submitted an application to play for Lithuania in the upcoming women's world championships. I think the US should deport her immediately if she likes Lithuania that much. That's un-American to want to play for another country in a world championship. Especially since she has no family ties to Lithuania. By the way, her application was denied by Lithuania.

From the "Where Are They Now?" File

I was brought to my attention (thanks Erv) that former Bears wide receiver Willie Gault is now an actor. Check out his filmography. How many people remember how great he was as the "Nordic Track Guy" in Holy Man?

Back on the Winning Track

The soccer team snapped the two-game losing streak tonight, winning 5-2. Kyle found the net for the first time since the first game of the season.

Soccer Update

The team has lost 2 in a row, dropping our record to 3-2. To make matters worse, I've been outcoached (not really, they just have some good players) by Bradye (yes that's how he spells his name) and Barney (the brother of a certain hotheaded, extremely skinny pitcher who played high school baseball with me). Barney wore his high school football jersey to the game tonight, that's how much he knows about soccer. I'm a couple more losses away from committing seppuku. I think this post set a record for the most parenthesis (that's not a very impressive record though).

Benson carted off

Cedric Benson sustained an injury to his left shoulder last night. The Bears said X-rays were negative and further tests would be conducted soon to determine the length of his absence and the extent of the injury.

Benson said he doesn't believe it is a separation and reminded everyone that he is a fast healer who came back from a sprained knee ligament last season.

"I'm doing pretty good," Benson said. "I don't think it's nothing severe. Everything seems good. I did a little treatment this morning and was moving it around. I felt pretty strong. I just feel really sore today."

The Bears' No. 1 2005 draft pick was struck by linebacker Brian Urlacher and then safety Mike Brown after catching a pass over the middle.

"He broke through, a freak accident -- those kind of things happen," Bears coach Lovie Smith said. "Hopefully it isn't too serious."

Urlacher said, "I don't know what happened. I turned around and he was on the ground and I went back to the huddle. That's all I remember. I don't even know if I was the one to hit him."

Youth Soccer

Angie and I are coaching soccer yet again this summer. This is my 11th season at the helm of the Foxes. We're off to a good start this summer with a 2-0 record. So far we've outscored our opponents 10-1. Kyle has two goals on the young season.

Oops

I see that Todd Walker had two throwing errors in his first start with the Padres. Whoever thought that Walker would make a good 3rd baseman needs to be fired.

Boycott

As some of you know, Erv and I went to watch the Cubs take on the D-backs last night. That's right I said last night, not afternoon. Anyway, the Cubs were easily beaten, 15-4. I told Erv last night that I refuse to pay to see another Cubs game as long as Glendon Rusch is on the team. Glendon turned in yet another inspiring performance last night, allowing only 3 HRs (4 earned runs) in two innings of work. Rusch's ERA (7.44) is actually worse than Prior's (7.20). Do you know how hard it is to pitch worse than Prior has been pitching?! Prior and Ohman pitched bad too, but there is absolutely no reason to have Glendon Rusch on a major league roster.

As if the night wasn't long enough, I missed my exit to get on 94 on the way home and we ended up taking the toll road until Michigan City. Once we got to Michigan City, we were able to find "the boat" and make our way home. We pulled into my driveway at 2:30 am.

I was reading an article in the Chicago Trib this morning and they had a small interview with Mark Grace. They asked if he thought it was odd to see his number 17 being worn by John Mabry at first base. Grace replied, "I know John, he's great. If anybody is going to wear it, I would love for it to be him." Grace added, "They let Bobby Hill wear it. John is a big step up."
