The Cubs added a player that they say will add some much needed power to the lineup. They dealt Jerry Hairston, Jr to the Rangers for Phil Nevin. Phil has hit nine homers and drove in 31 runs, but is currently hitting a paltry .216. The nine homers are misleading considering that seven of them came before April 26th. I wouldn't consider someone who has hit just two homers in the last month a power hitter. The only positive aspect of this trade is that Todd Walker can move back to second base and Neifi can move back to the bench where he belongs. Actually Neifi belongs on the MLB retirement list, but the bench will have to do for now.

Feats of strength
People should be less worried about the DaVinci Code and more worried about shutting this guy up.

I'm out
The Cubs are officially dead to me for the rest of the season. I can't handle any more losses like yesterday's. It's not healthy for me.
IU's top receiver arrested
I'm glad to see that Purdue's football team isn't the only one with legal issues. As far as I know no Purdue players have been accused of assaulting an infant though.

Not so good
Kerry Wood was less than impressive today in his first outing of the season. The Washington Nationals roughed him up for four runs and three homers. That's right the Nationals hit three dingers off him in just five innings. The same Nationals who hadn't scored a run in the first two games of the series. The Cubs ended up losing the game 5-3.

Softball Week 3
Not much to report since our game was cancelled due to the deluge of rain we've received over the past five days. Our next game is Thursday, May 25th.

Softball Week 2
Bring me the finest meats and cheeses as well as the Ryan-o-Meter because I went yard tonight. I was a pathetic 1-for-4 (including a foul-out) in the first game, but found a groove in the second game. I was 2-for-2 with a HR, triple, and a walk. In the field I made a couple great plays but choked on a couple routine plays. At least I didn't trip over the outfield fence trying to catch a flyball, right Mark? Adam scored on a single with a three-base error but unfortunately that's not good enough to get a meter on this blog. We ended up losing both games due to a lack of team hitting. Our record now stands at 1-3. We only lost 3 games all of last season.
I'll give the rest of the guys a chance to catch me next week because with the girls having a 4:30 game in Plymouth, it doesn't look like I'll make it to the church game at 6:00. Hopefully I can make it back in time for the second game of the doubleheader.

The Streak is over
A streak as impressive as DiMaggio's consecutive game hit streak and Ripken's consecutive games played streak ended today. My consecutive days without a cavity streak was stopped abruptly today when I visited Dr. Yoder. The streak ended at 25 years, 4 months, and 25 days. It was good while it lasted. Some may blame the 48-60 ounces of soft drinks that I consume daily, but I think it's the water in Mishawaka. The water up here obviously doesn't contain a high enough level of fluoride.

Softball Week 1
The team won the first game and lost the second game. Everyone hit well, but Erv lead the way with a huge 2-run double off the right field fence. I'm going to take down the meters because I think it's bad luck to put them up before we actually hit a dinger (at least I hope that's what the problem is).
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Apple fanboys
I guess Apple isn't as impervious to viruses as they would like us to believe.
