Cubs re-sign Perez

The Cubs re-signed Neifi Perez yesterday to a two-year deal that will keep him a Cub through 2007. This move does not mean that the Cubs will not try and sign Rafael Furcal. Paul Kinzer, Furcal's agent said, "He's very close to Neifi Perez and Aramis Ramirez, and he played with Maddux, so there's a comfort level in Chicago. Whatever team he goes to, he wants to be able to go to a World Series, and he feels the Cubs are going to be competitive in trying to get there." Let's hope the Cubs can get Furcal because they haven't had a leadoff hitter since Kenny Lofton left the team after the 2003 playoff debacle.

The Cubs would have as good of a shot at the Series if they signed Rosie Perez.
