Griese sucks too

The Bears dropped to 1-3 today after their loss to Detriot. The Packers, on the other hand, improved to 4-0 by downing the Vikings.

I think it is painfully obvious that the Bears aren't going anywhere this year and it's time to see what Orton has to offer. He is 6'4" with a laser rocket arm, only 24 years old, and way cooler than any other QB in the league. Just check out the picture if you don't believe me.

Grossman is done in Chicago and Griese is too old and slow to be a starting QB. The Bears need to figure out if Orton can be the QB of the future or if they need to draft yet another QB in the draft next year.

A great weekend for me

Back in 2003, I remember telling Dave that there is no way Purdue will beat Notre Dame and the Cubs will clinch their division in the same day ever again.

Well, it almost happened again. The Cubs clinched the NL Central late last night and Purdue beat the hapless Irish this afternoon, 33-19.

Purdue is now 5-0 and faces Ohio State Saturday at 8:00. The game will be televised on ABC.

Coke points

I've started collecting Coke points so feel free to email me the code that is printed on the underside of the cap on bottles or the code that is printed inside of the part on the 12-pack that you rip off to open it up. I get three points for codes from bottles and 10 for codes from 12-packs. Powerade and Dasani water have the codes too. I think I need 11,000 or so to get a t-shirt or something really cool like that.

I'm a man! I'm 40!

I can't wait for someone in the Advance News to critize one of my softball players so I can hold a press conference and go off on the reporter.

I can't wait for the Coors Light people to use Gundy's press conference for one of their commercials. Yes, I'm talking about the Coors Light commercials so I have an excuse to watch Jim Mora talk about the playoffs again.

No More Grossman!

The Bears finally pulled the plug on Grossman. I was just thinking last Sunday that I was almost to the point where I wouldn't watch anymore Bears games while Wrecks Grossman was the starting QB. My only problem is that Lovie chose Griese to start instead of Kyle Orton.

T.O. fined for latest TD celebration

Terrell Owens was fined for his celebration Sunday, which poked fun at the Patriots spying scandal.

I personally don't like T.O. very much, but I like this celebration. It is definitely better than anything Ocho Cinco has come up with so far.

Bears 20, Chiefs 10

I was fortunate enough to be in attendance for yesterday's thrashing of the KC Chiefs.

On a side note, now is not a good time to be a Leavitt. In addition to the Bears downing the Chiefs, the Cubs beat the Cards on Sunday to crush what little playoff hopes the red birds had. The Cubs finished 11-5 against the Cards this year.

Back to the Bears game...Grossman played decently in the first half but was terrible in the second half. Rex threw two INTs in the second half. He was roundly booed after his second pick. Benson looked good, rushing for 101 yards on 24 carries. Orton looked really sharp in the pre-game warm ups!

Hester was unbelievable. He returned a punt 73 yards for a touchdown and would have had a 95 yard kickoff return for a TD had Rod Wilson not been flagged for holding.

The defense was great again, especially in the second half when the Chiefs were trying to make a comeback. About halfway through the 4th quarter, Tillman deflected a pass in the end zone to teammate Danieal Manning who returned it just shy of the 30 yard line. Tillman later ended the Chiefs day by causing a fumble by Michael Bennett. Luckily the Chiefs were out of timeouts at that point because I don't think Grossman and the offense could have done anything besides a QB kneel to end the game.

Overall, I had a great time and really enjoyed the new Soldier Field. I'll have to post some of the pictures I took later.

Oregon mascot in hot water

The Oregon Duck has been suspended for Saturday's game against Fresno State because of his actions against Houston's mascot on September 1st.

I'm guessing the crotch to the face maneuver towards the end of the clip is what drew the suspension.

Longhorn fan gets gored

A Texas Longhorn fan made the mistake of walking into an Oklahoma bar wearing a Longhorns t-shirt and paid a hefty price for his foolish mistake.

According to police, Texas fan Brian Christopher Thomas (not pictured) walked into Henry Hudson's Pub on June 17 wearing a Longhorns T-shirt and quickly became the focus of football "trash talk" from another regular, 53-year-old Oklahoma fan Allen Michael Beckett.

Things picked up and to make a long story short, Thomas left the bar with both of his man bits hanging outside his body. It took sixty(!) stiches to close up his bag.

That seems a little excessive on the part of the Sooners fan, but I can see myself doing this to an IU fan strutting around inside a bar at West Lafayette.

Iron Man Trailer

I never got into Iron Man as a kid, but the trailer looks pretty good.

Bears lose game, two starters

Not only did the Bears lose their season opener to the Chargers 14-3 yesterday, they also lost two defensive starters for the rest of the season.

Mike Brown and Dusty Dvoracek are both lost for the remainder of the season due to knee injuries. Brown suffered an unspecified knee injury while Dvoracek sustained a torn ACL.

I'm guessing that Darwin Walker will fill in at tackle for Dusty and Danieal Manning will take Brown's spot in the starting lineup.

The Bears play their first home game of the season on Sunday against the Chiefs. I will be at Soldier Field to witness the Bears take out their frustrations on the hapless Chiefs.

Boilers win second in a row

The Boilers crushed the visiting Eastern Illinois Panthers today, 52-6. Curtis Painter threw for 348 yards and 6 TDs. The six passing touchdowns tie a school record held by Drew Brees and Kyle Orton.

Purdue faces off against Central Michigan next week at Ross-Ade.
