Cubs sweep away Cards

The Cubs completed a four-game sweep of the Cardinals today at Wrigley. The loss dropped the Cards to 0-7 at the friendly confines this season. In the middle of a grueling season, this sweep was a nice reprieve.

Fine print

I signed up for a free checking account the other day at a certain bank so that I could get an iPod. It was just brought to my attention tonight that the fine print states that I'll also be receiving a 1099-INT too for the iPod. Income tax on $150 isn't that big of a deal, I'm just wondering how many people noticed the the fine print.

I'm scared of my laptop

I was reading Engadget and found this article. My laptop is one of the several that are affected by the battery recall.

Noooooo

Jim Hendry announced today that Dusty will be sticking around for the rest of the season.

On a side note, it looks like Chris Speier has finally dried out because he returned to the Cubs today.

Reader in NJ

Since I've installed a statcounter on my blog, I've been able to track who has been regularly been coming to my blog. I've been able to pick out all my friends and family, but there is someone in NJ who comes back fairly often. I don't think I have any friends or family in NJ, but I could be wrong. If you want to identify yourself, that would be nice, however, you don't need to. I'm just glad you keeping coming back.

New car

Angie and I bought our first new car yesterday, a 2006 Corolla S. It is just like the one pictured only ours is white. It is definitely more masculine than a Suzuki Aerio. In addition to emasculating the Aerio, the Corolla also gets 38 MPG on the highway.

We don't have it yet though. I'll be picking it up sometime next week.

No more Harold Reynolds

Looks like ESPN has fired baseball analyst Harold Reynolds after he was accused of sexual harassment. Not really much to say about that other than it is more shocking than the news that Lance is gay.

D-Lee back to the DL

The Cubs put Derreck Lee back on the DL today with soreness in his right wrist. Lee and the Cubs claim that he is not being shut down for the rest of the season.

The Cubs sent Scott Williamson to the Padres today for minor league pitchers Fabian Jimenez and Joel Santo. Both Jimenez and Santo were playing for the Fort Wayne Wizards. Jimenez is 5-7 with a 4.43 ERA. Santo is 5-6 with a 5.51 ERA.

There goes my idea

Thanks ESPN for screwing up my greatest SportsCenter commercial series. I noticed tonight (before you emailed Dave) that ESPN requested that YouTube remove everything that ESPN has a copyright on.

Trapped in the Closet

I finally saw the controversial South Park episode about Scientology last night. I love the part when the Scientology president explains the great secret of life behind the church. Luckily for you I found it on YouTube!

I'm going to start posting some of my favorite SportsCenter commercials of all time. Here's the first one...

Cubs coach arrested

Chris Speier must've been out celebrating a rare Cubs win last night because he was pulled over after running a stop sign and then arrested for driving under the influence. Iowa Cubs manager Mike Quade will take over third base coaching duties until Chris comes back. The Cubs might as well leave Mike on the Cubs coaching staff since most of the players on the roster will be from triple-A by the end of next month anyway.

Give it up Sammy

Sammy Sosa claims that he's ready to come back to baseball for the right offer. Maybe he's made the change to human growth hormone instead of plain ol' steroids. I've heard that HGH isn't detectable yet.

Softball Tourney

The church league season came to a disappointing end tonight with the team losing a close one to First Brethren of Goshen. I was unable to make it to the game due to my high school girls softball coaching job. It is a double elimination tourney but since the commish forgot to tell our coach when the first game was we automatically forfeited since no one showed up. I am a little disappointed that I didn't get to my goal of 10 homers. Unfortunately I only played in 2/3 of the games so I didn't get as many chances to go deep as I did last season. Oh well, I'm once again the home-run champ! Maybe next year guys.

I wonder who Walker is going to blame now?

Just two days after Todd Walker came down on Ronny Cedeno for making a throwing error in Cubs loss to the Mets on Friday, he committed two errors in the Mets 11-run sixth inning tonight. Eight of the eleven runs the Mets scored in the inning were unearned.

Things getting even uglier for the Cubs

I saw in the paper today that Todd Walker was addressing things that Bob Brenly said during the telecast. Haven't we seen this before?! Walker was upset because Brenly said that he had trouble getting a ball out of his glove that could've ended up leading to a double play. Walker claims the ball took a bad hop and then placed the blame on Ronny Cedeno because Ronny made a bad throw to first. The part that Walker left out was that his late and soft throw to second is the reason why Cedeno made a bad throw. Because the throw was late to Ronny, the Mets baserunner was able to slide into him causing the errant throw. Walker said, "I got a little tough short hop there," Walker said. "I think Bob Brenly mentioned on TV I had trouble getting it out of my glove. I didn't have trouble getting it out of my glove. It was just a tough hop. We got the play at second and could've got the guy at first too. That was a tough deal, but you'll have to ask Ronny about that."

Hendry needs to get off his fat butt and get Todd Walker out of Chicago ASAP.

Zambrano injured before ASG

Carlos Zambrano was unavailable for the All Star Game after he was struck in the right elbow by Joey Cora's fungo bat during batting practice. Yes, I'm talking about Joey Cora, the 3rd base coach for Ozzie's White Sox.

Scrap Iron ready to be recycled

National League managers have Phil "Scrap Iron" Garner to thank for not getting home field advantage for the World Series. I bet every single NL manager screamed at the TV when they saw Trevor Hoffman warming up for the ninth inning. If not, they should be coaching girls softball next year and let me manage their team. I knew it was a bad idea even before Joe Buck let the viewing audience know that Hoffman's ERA in All Star games is over 10.00. Everyone knows that Garner should've pitched Chris Capuano in the 7th inning and save Brewers teammate Derrick Turnbow for the ninth.

Nice 'burns

I was watching the all-star game tonight and couldn't help but notice Joe Mauer's sideburns. I thought Mark and I were the only ones still sporting sideburns like that.
