Boilers heading to El Paso
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue football team this afternoon accepted an invitation to play in the Vitalis Sun Bowl on Dec. 31 in El Paso, Texas.
The Boilermakers (7-4, 4-4 Big Ten), who completed the 2004 regular season with a 63-24 victory over intrastate rival Indiana on Saturday, will play a Pac-10 opponent in the CBS nationally televised game.
Purdue will be making its third trip to the Sun Bowl in the last four years. The Boilermakers lost to Washington State 33-27 in 2001 and defeated Washington 34-24 in 2002. Overall, Purdue is 7-5 in bowl games.
Head coach Joe Tiller has led the Boilermakers to eight bowls in eight years, an unprecedented streak in school history.
"We hope the fan following that has grown up around the Boilermakers will join us in El Paso," he said. "The Sun Bowl and the events surrounding it are great, and the Tex-Mex cuisine and culture will be a treat for the fans who accompany us.
